Trends in Sexual Acts Worldwide - 03/26/2012

Sex is a normal part of human life. This particular drive or instinct has its roots in the animal kingdom. Evolutionary biologists revealed that sexual reproduction was first observed among animals some 300 million years ago.

Around the world, both teens and adults engage in sex. The teens are at the peak of their puberty and as such start to explore their sexuality. One of the things they do then is to do the act. Adults, on the other hand, engage in the act as well together with their partners. They do this whether or not they’re married.

For teenagers, the average age when they first have sex varies depending on where they are located. The females in Asia and Latin American normally experience this later compared to their counterparts in North America, Europe and Africa. Studies have revealed as well that generally, the average age for teen girls when they have their first sexual experience is 15 to 16 years old. This is much earlier than their parents’ first experience at the age of 18. Research has also found that many teenage girls claimed they were forced to do the act

In terms of frequency, there’s no fixed data on this. What’s certain is that sexual practices remain to be a universal thing. In the U.K., for instance, the average individual engages in sex at the rate of 2,580 times during his lifetime with five people. This is according to an AFP report in 1998.

A Durex survey done in the past revealed that among the sexually active aged 16 to 45, the average American had sex 138 times a year, the French 141 times, the British 112 and those in Hong Kong at 57.

One factor that influences the frequency of having sex is cultural background. In some areas of Asia, the rate of having sex goes down for people older than 40. Indians, for example, abstain from doing the act when they reach the age of 50. In addition, the abstinence from sex starts when a woman already has a married daughter or becomes a grandmother. This is based on a report from the International Planned Parenthood Federation.

While sex can be a pleasurable experience, it is not safe particularly when one of those involved carries an infectious disease. For this reason, condoms remain the most important personal protection that teens and adults can use to prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and unwanted pregnancy.
